Because it’s not very complicated, it might make a good introduction to RPG-style play for older kids, but don’t go into it expecting too much if you’re a hardened gamer. I enjoyed the game, largely because it’s one of the most professional looking games available on the iPhone, but it is still too simple to be truly satisfying (a complaint I also had about the PC version). Experience multiple styles of gameplay as your creature. Ultimately, Spore Creatures is a great-looking and super-polished game, but it doesn’t really offer anything new. Create a creature, then control every dimension of its evolution from pond scum to galactic god. It looks so good, you can’t help but be seriously disappointed when you realize that there just isn’t enough substance behind the style, but the creature customization tool is a lot of fun, and you could easily waste a lot of time crafting a fleet of wacky looking species. The game suffers from a case of high expectations. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of variation between the levels, and it gets repetitive quickly. Unlocking them all usually requires some kind of evolutionary upgrade, and it’s a challenge to collect all of the various upgrades available. There are a large number of levels, all spread out over various types of terrain. You can get stuck on occasion, but for the most part, I found the controls easy enough to maneuver. The tilt controls are a little difficult to manage, especially combined with the complicated environment. Creatures is about as polished as can be with truly stunning artwork, great music, and super-clean interface. You must also negotiate the terrain, which is populated by killer plants, treacherous quicksand, and other dangerous perils.Ĭoming from Will Wright (creator of The Sims and SimCity) and EA Games, I had some very high expectations on the design front, and it doesn’t disappoint on that end. An unrelated game with the same name was released in 2009 for iOS devices as a sequel to Spore Origins, featuring similar gameplay to its prequel. Using tilt controls, you explore the land, looking for food and new species that you can fight or befriend to gain new species traits to help you claw your way up the evolutionary ladder. Spore Creatures is a 2008 science fiction adventure game developed by Griptonite Games and published by Electronic Arts. In Spore Creatures, you control a creature that has just crawled out of the primordial soup, so to speak, and you’re ready to test your evolutionary mettle on dry land. You don’t need to have played Origins to understand Creatures. Summary Release Data Game Credits Also Playing Collection Stats Guides Q&A Reviews Media. All of these creatures still retain their Cell Stage parts.I actually enjoyed Spore more on the iPhone than I did on the PC, but that’s not really saying much. These creatures you can encounter from the start of the Creature Stage. Mode: Single-player How to play Spore: The game is made up of five stages, with each stage offering a different type of experience and different objectives to achieve. If a creature has high levels of both attack and social status, there's a good chance it will appear as a rogue creature.īelow is a list of all the Creatures in the Creature Stage. Rogue creatures - Rogues are creatures that don't have a designated nest, and often wander all alone. These usually appear later on in the stage as smaller versions of their normal creature size. Pack Creatures - a semi-common type of lesser-strong creature that roams around the planet in packs of three. These types can't be found in the other stages: In the Creature Stage, specialized types of creatures can be found at random within the stage you're playing. Your species cannot go extinct, even after your nest is wiped out, as there's always at least one member of your species at a nest in order to enter Creature Creator mode. If you find a nest of your own species, there is an option to make their nest your own. You are also able to find your own species in different nests throughout the stage, their behavior often neutral unless attacked. Usually, Maxis-made creations are all you'll see if you just begin the game, but the more creations you make and more creations from other people you have, the rarer Maxis-made creations will become when playing normally. Their behavior is also influenced by their stats (a creature with more attack power will become more aggressive, for example). Many of maxis-made creatures will appear randomly throughout the stage, when they appear depending on both your stats and theirs. Compared to the other stages, Creature Stage has the most creatures made by Maxis.
